Rendering of the student university apartments The record enrollment at Emory & Henry in recent years is the result of years of planning and foresight, guided by an unwavering commitment to student success, by opportunities for flexible instruction models enabled by 21st century technology, and by areas of emerging opportunity and need in the world into which our graduates are entering.

Emory & Henry is making the most of these opportunities to further enhance the student experience at a time when institutions of higher education are facing a state of disruption. The University has embraced the lessons learned from a long history of going through flexible periods of “creative reinvention,” when Emory & Henry has undertaken updates to make itself more relevant. Our current growth is another exciting period of creative reinvention, deeply rooted in our steadfast focus on student success.

The foundation of student success has multiple parallel elements that support the growth we are now observing. We seek to further enhance these elements as the premier private institution of higher education in Southwest Virginia and in the region.

  • Additional scholarships, both merit and need-based, to further enhance academic success among students and student-athletes
  • Enhance programming, scholarships and community service on campus and beyond to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Expand services offered by the Paul Adrian Powell, III Student Success Center available to Emory & Henry students
  • Provide new and enhanced on-campus housing for students to support growth and retention
  • Develop additional workforce development initiatives benefiting Southwest Virginia and Middle Appalachia

    Emory & Henry Cuts Ribbon on Newly Built University Apartments

    After welcoming more than 1,100 students to its Emory, Va. campus, Emory & Henry held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 12, at University Apartments, its newest apartment-style living complex, adding 96 new beds to its inventory in the fall of 2023. After the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to tour the new living spaces.

    E&H Ribbon Cutting Opens New Paul Adrian Powell, III Student Success Center

    Hundreds of students at Emory & Henry College have a new Student Success Center to call home that was dedicated Friday, September 16, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with members of the Powell family, President John W. Wells and former President Charlie Sydnor presiding. With the Powell family’s generous and continued gifts, a new center was constructed in Wiley Hall, where a former auditorium was housed. It features a welcoming lounge with a coffee bar, a tech-savvy classroom and multiple offices for staff and students.
